RLABS

We are excited to announce the launch of RLabsU in Atlantis, Western Cape on 6 February 2016.

RLabsU will provide community members in Atlantis, and the surrounding areas, with access to various skills programmes; ranging from Small Business Management to Introduction to Computers and many more.

Atlantis was established during the 1970s by the apartheid government as an industrial centre and as a community for Cape Town’s so called coloured population. As of 2011, it had 67,491 residents. Unemployment, lack of housing and crime are major challenges in the area – which is compounded by a lack of opportunities for young people to succeed in life.

Andiswa Mdeleni, RLabs Academy Manager, said: “Given the high unemployment rate among young people, many of them are described as discouraged, without hope and are not taking active steps to find employment. It is with this in mind that RLabs is embarking on expanding our work through RLabsU – an ‘academy in a box’ model.”

We will ensure that every person who participates in our training programmes will be inspired, motivated and better equipped to succeed in life.

Chantal Micheals, a resident of Atlantis and an RLabs graduate, said the launch of RLabsU in Atlantis made her think of an episode in The Incredibles.

What are you waiting for kid? Asked Bob Parr (a.k.a. Mr. Incredible), to which the little boy answers: I don’t know. Something amazing, I guess. Bob replies; me too, kid.

Chantal is fully persuaded that with the RLabsU programme launch in Atlantis, young people from the area will be able to broaden their horizons.
