I am David Felix, the second born of three children and raised by a single parent. My family and
I moved to Cape Town 5 years ago in hopes of improving our standard of living. A few years later I passed my matric in 2018. I found myself at home and depressed because I was unemployed. Suddenly a link popped up in a matric group I was in at the time, it was a link to RLabs (Reconstructed Living Labs). I applied to the Grow Leadership Academy programme that RLabs offers to youth and that is where I was introduced to coding.

Later on, I got an opportunity to work for RLabs through the YES programme, which has helped me and my family tremendously. I got the opportunity to work with clients and be part of a working environment which was fun and a learning experience for me. Working with people helped me become more confident and outspoken, even though I’m an introvert.
Being unemployed can be depressing, but applying for free online course to up skill yourself can help a lot. My personal favourite free learning websites: freecodecamp and
codecademy (free coding courses).
I love the scripture in the Bible; Matthew 23:12. I encourage young people to work hard, be exponential, do what they are passionate about and help others reach their goals. We all have something to offer this world that no one else has, it’s our responsibility to find out what that is.
A very big thanks to the YES Programme for giving me this opportunity to learn and grow.
Thank you so much RLABS for everything you’ve done and still doing for my son David and for so many other young children all over!
God bless your company. ..always!
