Mitchells Plain’s Biggest First Thursday of 2024
Mitchells Plain came alive on the first Thursday evening of November as RLabs House hosted its most memorable First Thursday event of the year.
This milestone evening saw the unveiling of the much-anticipated exhibition “New World” by the acclaimed artist Dion Cupido, drawing an audience of over 300 attendees.
The exhibition served as the heart of the event, captivating art enthusiasts and community members alike with its bold exploration of transformation and identity. Cupido’s work provided a powerful narrative that resonated deeply with the crowd, setting the tone for a night of connection and cultural appreciation.
Adding to the vibrant energy were the incredible performances that brought the RLabs House courtyard to life. Loukmaan Adams, accompanied by the talented Mitchells Plain Music Academy, delivered a show-stopping performance that united the audience across generations. The Genesis Music Foundation followed, infusing the air with the soul-stirring rhythms of African sound, showcasing the region’s rich musical heritage.
As the night unfolded, Grandmaster Ready D took to the decks, delivering an electrifying set that had the crowd dancing and celebrating under the stars. The atmosphere was one of pure joy and unity, enhanced by the presence of community members and distinguished delegates from the AfriLabs gathering.
RLabs House expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended, acknowledging that the success of the evening was a collective effort. “We extend our deepest thanks to every one of our guests for making this First Thursday one of the biggest and most successful events Mitchells Plain has seen this year,” said Chenique Jacobs, Project Lead of RLabs House. “Your support and enthusiasm are what make our community events truly special.”
Mitchells Plain First Thursday continues to prove that art, culture, and community are at the heart of what makes this space so special.
