As the year draws to a close, we can definitely say without a doubt that one of the big highlights was the launch of the Youth Cafes. This is a partnership with the Western Cape Department of Social Development and was officially launched on the 20 January 2014. The Youth Cafes has provided thousands of youth across Cape Town with a platform where they can access skills and personal development training, economic and social opportunities and creative spaces where they able to express themselves at a local and global scale.
During its first year more than 15,000 visits were made to the 2 Youth Cafes and more than 14,000 seats were filled for training. The young people (Zafes) also did more than 40,000 community hours in their communities. The Youth Cafes also introduced our innovative digital currency, Zlato, enabling youth to purchase for goods using the mobile wallets.
