Sip & Paint – A Creative RLabs Collaboration
Saturday, 17 August 2024, we saw the awesome collaboration of RLabs House and RLabs Women. It was a day of creativity, connection, and celebration. This “Sip & Paint” event was designed to bring together the individuals who are passionate about art, community, and empowerment.
For those wondering what on Earth a Sip & Paint is, simply put, it is a social event where participants “sip” their favourite beverages while they “paint” their artwork of choice. At this particular event there were fruity mocktails and tasty snacks and nibbles.
After the ladies got their welcome drinks, they each got a chance to share what Women’s Month means to them. Beautiful insights were shared and everyone in attendance could take something special from each response. It was even more profound that the group of ladies varied in age.

They were then introduced to Mischa Coetzee, from Work of His Hands, who was the art instructor for the day. Mischa showed the ladies how to plan their painting, how to mix paint colours, and many tips and tricks to get the most out of the experience. The guide and inspiration for the artwork for the day being a painting she had done years ago.
Painting theme for the day: A more abstract theme where participants paint waves, symbolizing the change and impact women have made over time.
With the theme for the session in mind, the ladies got to painting. It was great to see how different each painting was. Some remarked how they haven’t painted like this since Primary School! Everyone seemed to be quite enthusiastic with their paintings and unafraid to use lots of colour. Although they all got the same image/painting as a reference, by the end of the session no two paintings were alike, but each one uniquely beautiful.

At one point everyone got to their feet to have a quick look at all the paintings in progress for some inspiration but also to see others’ interpretation of the theme. The ladies had a wonderful time with the upbeat music, chatting, and delicious snacks keeping them warm.
When it came to the end of the event, the ladies took a group photo with their colourful mocktails, each one leaving with their brand new artwork.
We hope there will be many more get-togethers for women such as these in the future and we are looking forward to seeing you there!
