South Africa has the third highest unemployment rate in the world for people between the ages of 15 to 24. More than 50% of young South Africans are unemployed. RLabs has created a virtual currency, Zlato, for social change that rewards unemployed youth for doing good in their communities (E.g. cleaning environment, volunteer at local NGOs, Schools etc.). Youth can spend the currency through RLabs Innovation Cafes and local traders in return for their good deeds.
RLabs is currently running a crowd-funding campaign over the next 4 weeks to support this initiative. You can support the Virtual Currency for Social Change here

The unemployment rate as explained in the post is correct and very real. Unfortunately, this has been the case for the past few years. Why is this? What are we doing wrong? ..or are we still too conservative in our approach. How is it possible, as a Marketing Manager for a Insurance brokerage, I am able to, in my spare time, impact on peoples lives yet I don’t come from that environment? Has unemployment and poverty become a popular culture in our communities and useful slogan to use for our various corporate causes? As a result, all the solutions we seek and find are tainted by a predetermined outcome. Maybe its time to assume a global perspective to solve a South African dilemma. We are seeing and achieving results all over the world and creating new destiny’s for the same youth.
LIKE SOUTH AFRICA, BANGLADESH ALSO SUFFERING FROM YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT.
THE LATEST INNOVATION BY RLABS SHOULD DISCRIMINATE TO THE SO-CALLED 3RD WORLD COUNTRIES, & SO ON. BANGLADESHI ICT PERSONNEL ARE STRIEVING
TO IMPROVE YOUNG GENERATION AS IT-FRIENDLY. THERE ARE SO MANY IT APPS DEVELOPER BOTH COMPUTERS & MOBILES ARENA.THUS POVERTY & UNEMPLOYMENT WOULD BE ERADICATED IN 2021 (50th ANNIVERSARY OF BANGLADESH INCEPTION).
When will Atlantis see its youth café though? Half a year has passed and no update on whether it is still in the pipeline or just another unrealised dream. 🙂 Please let us know because this is something we’ve been looking forward to.
